Reiki is a hands-on healing system that was discovered by Dr Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1920s after a spiritual enlightenment on Mount Kurama near Kyoto.
Reiki is a Japanese word translated as Universal Life-force Energy. "Rei" means wisdom and knowledge of all the Universe. "Ki" means Energy referring to the Life-force or Energy imbued in all living and also non-living things like metals, rocks and crystals.
Reiki is a way of activating and applying Universal energy to help promote the health and harmony of mind, body, spirit and emotions. It assists the body's natural healing powers, helping it to realign itself and maintain the balance it seeks. Each person is responsible for his/her own well-being and a Reiki healer will therefore help a person in their own healing. Reiki can be used both for self-healing as well as giving Reiki to others. Along with reinforcing the body's ability to heal itself, Reiki also supports, complements and enhances other types of alternative, complementary and orthodox medical treatments.
